Keum Bo Designs

Keum Bo (with several spelling and pronunciation variations) is the traditional Korean technique of fusing fusing fine silver and 24 karat gold. The pieces below were textured and depletion gilded ~to bring up the fine silver before fusing~ then polished with pumice powder for a subtle, satin finish.

Mauritanian Conus Shell Bracelet

Traveling in Morocco several years ago, I found some old Mauritanian conus shell hair ornaments in the Marrakesh souk. I only wish I'd bought more at the time. These shells or "koos" have been used for body ornamentation and trade since 20,000 B.C. and were also highly valued as currency.  Prong set bezel; file-carved sterling silver clasp. $150.
